Wilson Bugembe is a well-known gospel musician and pastor from Uganda. He runs the Worship House Church in Nansana, which is near Kampala.
How I grew up and went to school
Wilson Bugembe was born in 1984 in Gulama village, Masaka, to the late Betty Naluwoge and Dreke Kilabira. Kilabira was a singer, just like his son Bugembe. In the Masaka District, he started the Hossana Choir Kijabweme.
Bugembe was born into a family of five boys. When he was young, he lost his family and had to live on the streets for a while.
He and his brother Brian Ddumba are the only two of the five boys who are still alive.
His stepmother and stepbrother, Dr. Frank in Kyotera, are also still alive.
Brian Ddumba is a Born Again Christian, a doctor, a songwriter, and a gospel singer. He lives in the United States of America at the moment (USA).
After Bugembe's parents died, his grandfather Joshua Kabanda offered to take care of him and his siblings. He also agreed to pay for Bugembe's schooling, but they had a fight and he stopped doing that.
He went to Stella Malice Primary School, where his grandfather took him, and St. Joseph Gulama, where he finished Primary Seven in 1997.
By then, Bugembe was having a hard time.
Bugembe then went to S.1 at High Way College Makerere, where he got both his O and A Levels. At that point, he was in S.6 and taking HED/L.
At this time, he had nothing to eat, no place to live, and was always crying. God will never leave his people, as you all know. Wilson Bugembe's whole life changed, and now he is one of the most famous people in the country.
After he got off the streets, Bugembe joined a group called Born Again, which helped him get better.
No one knew that Bugembe, who was always sick and small, would one day get where he is now. But nothing is impossible for God.
Pastor Bugembe's life shows that God is real.
Pastor Wilson Bugembe is one of the best gospel musicians in East Africa right now. His life hasn't been easy; he went from being a grasshopper to a prince.
Music
Pastor Wilson Bugembe started singing when he was in the sixth grade.
His break through song was Mukama Njagala Kumanya. This sold out quickly because radio and TV stations played it over and over again. At this point, though, gospel music fans didn't know much about the person behind this hit song.
Pastor Bugembe showed that he was here to stay when he released Kamawo Eka, his second song about society after Mukama Njagala Kumanya.
This too sold a lot of copies, and it was followed by hits like Bwalikujukira, Kani, Ani, and many other singles that were both inspiring and woke up society.

Pastor Wilson Bugembe started the Worship House Church when he was only 19 years old and in his S.6 class. At the time, there were only nine people in the church, but now there are thousands.
Bugembe first bought a 100-by-100-foot plot of land, and then they kept adding plots, even though each one cost more because it was for a church. Today, the church is being built on a 3-acre plot of land that is registered under the name Worship House.
Worship House is a 6000-seat church, but soon after it is finished, services will be held in shifts. It used to be called Light the World Ministries, but now it is called Worship House.
Bugembe changed the name of the church from Light the World Church to Worship House because he thought the name was too long and wanted something short and easy to remember.
So, he prayed to God to help him make a wise choice.
He fasted and prayed for it, and whenever people went to church or crusades to worship, God came down and showed them his power and miracles. So he changed the name to "Worship House."
Bugembe doesn't have any sponsors. The money they use to build churches and do other church activities comes from fundraising campaigns, and they tell people what they did with the money they raised.
Bugembe's fights with other pastors
Pastor Wilson Bugembe and Pastor Bujingo had some big fights in the past, but they worked things out and are now friends. He says that prayer and fasting are how he wins his fights.
Bugembe doesn't have any problems with other pastors, but he does have problems with false preachers who lead God's people astray.
He once turned down Pastor Yiga's (RIP) offer to broadcast his church services on his ABS TV, saying, "I like him, but he goes off God's message."
Politics: Pastor Wilson Bugembe likes President Museveni, but he isn't a politician and doesn't have a party. He says that he will try his best not to get involved in politics.
Bugembe likes President Museveni because he lets people worship however they want. Born Again Christians can preach the gospel anywhere and at any time without being stopped. Second, he was able to go to school because education became free in 1997. Before that, he would have dropped out of school.
This is why he agreed to sing on the song Tubonga Nawe, which most Ugandan singers from President Museveni's 2016 presidential campaign sang on.
He says that Bobi Wine is his best friend, even though they have different political views. Bugembe really likes Bobi Wine. He likes him so much because, when he was just starting out as a singer, Bobi Wine agreed to be in one of his songs for free, even though Bugembe didn't know him at the time.
So, when he asked him to be in the Tuliyambala Engule song, he thought about the time Bobi Wine helped him when he was no one and Bobi Wine was famous. So he agreed, even though people thought he was political when he wasn't. Bugembe says his chorus has nothing to do with politics.
Doing good deeds
Pastor Wilson Bugembe runs a home for kids. Early in 2020, Bugembe gave Fresh Kid's sister Trisha a scholarship to go to his Mercy Schools in Mende along Sentema Road in Wakiso District and study from Primary to S.6.
Pastor Wilson Bugembe runs the schools with help from friends in Europe. The schools focus on giving orphans and other less fortunate kids a chance to learn how to read and write.
Pastor Wilson Bugembe has become the person that most famous Ugandans go to when they need help. He has made a safe place for people who need it, and he is happy to help those who come looking for him.
