Around 29 years old, according to online sources, Salim Tana previously vied for the Kisoro Municipality MP seat in the 2021 elections but was unsuccessful. Netizens familiar with her background fondly remember her late father, Salim Tana, as a respected community figure. One commented, "Her father was a very good man. RIP Salim Tana," while another added, "He was a mentor in football, and now we have players like Bobosi and her brother in the Uganda Premier League."

Introducing her to the public, NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, announced, "Meet the National Unity Platform’s @NUP_Ug flag-bearer for Kisoro District Woman MP, comrade Sultana Salim (Tana)!"

In her 2021 campaign, talent development was a major focus. Her manifesto included promises to nurture talent, stating, "Talent development and nurturing is at the heart of #TeamTana’s manifesto. As a servant leader and the incoming Member of Parliament for Kisoro Municipality, I pledge to support young, talented individuals in securing livelihoods by promoting sports like football, volleyball, and netball for boys and girls in Kisoro District. It’s disappointing that we don’t have a team in the Uganda Premier League, despite the local talent.”

She also highlighted the importance of empowering cooperatives, saying, "Supporting cooperative groups (Ibibiina) will enable Kisoro residents, especially in Kisoro Municipality, to raise capital for small and medium enterprises, improving their standard of living."
